Kim Kreis is a contemporary artist who made Birmingham, Alabama her home in 1987. Kim earned her Master’s degree in Elementary Education and spent eight years teaching fourth grade before marrying her husband, Bill. Together, Bill and Kim have had 3 children(one of which is pictured here, @derylkathrynart, and 5 grandchildren who call her “Yaya.”
For twenty plus years, Kim pursued her second phase of creativity as Co-Founder and Designer for Sweet Pea Designs, a personalized stationery company. There she used original art to create a stationery “wardrobe” used by the entire family.
In 2016, following her lengthy career in beautiful papers, Kim found that the next stage of life led naturally to her lifelong love of painting. She cites her faith and her quiet home nestled between two mountains as a constant source of inspiration. Walking horse trails, lakes, the abundance of trees, plant life and gentle creatures never fail to provide peace and inspiration.
I love to describe myself as an abstract artist who most often relies on whimsy and color to connect with myself as well as my client base. My style is pretty simple and though I have an eclectic range of interests, I think those who know me would pretty easily recognize my work for color and the influence of flowers.
Next, Kim enjoys painting florals, abstracts and flower ladies…all inspired by her own garden and “she shed” where she spends much time. Her garden is meant to provide a plethora of cutting flowers as well as a winsome and peaceful place to think creatively and enjoy nature.
How do I spend my time other than painting?
I would say working in my garden, reading and anytime I can be with our grandchildren.
Flowers and gardening really connect my art, pottery, and home. We are in the process of adding additions to our home so construction decisions daily are a large part of my life.

What I am Learning in This Season of Life:
WHAT I am finding out about myself is that the older I get the braver and more comfortable I am to walk to my own beat whether it is what I have to say, what I do, or the values and faith I hold. It feels so freeing to know who you are without fear of anyone else.
